The executive secretary of Anti-corruption network in Nigeria, Dino Melaye, has advised the Federal Government to name the forensic auditors that has been given the job to unravel the mystery behind the alleged 20 billion dollars missing oil funds.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Mr Melaye said that there was need for the Federal Government to be transparent in its attempt to audit the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

He further advised the government to suspend the Group Managing Director of the NNPC and the Minister of Petroleum just like it did to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, in order to give room for a thorough investigation of the missing oil funds.

A spokesman for the president, Reuben Abati had said that the government had mandated a private forensic auditors to look into the unremitted funds allegations.

Mr Sanusi had accused the NNPC of not remitting 20 billion dollars to the Federation Account when he made a last appearance before the Senate to defend the budget allocation to the Central Bank before his suspension.

The NNPC denied the allegation saying that the 10.8 billion dollars earlier discovered to be unaccounted for, which it had carried out reconciliation on, was used for payment of subsidy on Kerosene and maintenance and repairs of vandalised pipelines.

Sanusi was suspended on allegations of financial recklessness weeks after he made the claims that 20 billion dollars was unaccounted for.
