National-Human-Right-Commission-NHRC-logosThe National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern over the alleged killing of nine persons, including a teenager at Tse Kucha, near Dangote Cement Factory in Gboko, Benue State.

The Executive Secretary of NHRC, Professor Bem Angwe has therefore ordered an immediate investigation into the alleged killings while pleading with the residents of the area to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands to avoid worsening the situation.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Officer of the commission, Fatimah Mohammed said Professor Angwe has assured the affected community and all Nigerians that justice would prevail at the end of the investigation by the commission.

Professor Angwe also called on security operatives deployed to quell the crisis to exercise restraint and adhere to international best practices on rules of engagement with persons who might want to confront them while performing their duties.

It was alleged that the unfortunate killing was masterminded by men suspected to be soldiers guarding Dangote Cement factory, who while in the process of apprehending a fleeing robber at the company mistakenly shot a teenage boy and the same resulted in a fracas.
