Kano Pillars defeat Zesco United 3-2

Kano Pillars of Nigeria have now qualified for the semi finals of the on-going CAF Champions League following their hard won victory over Zesco United of Zambia.

The kano based football club now have ten points from five matches with one more match away to Al-Merreikh of Sudan which lost their last match to Al-Hilal 3-1.

Zesco United’s striker Loti Phiri had opened scores in the first minute of the match after pulling in a nice free kick which the Pillars’ goal tender Norbert Omeregie failed to clear.

But a beautiful build-up from the centre with a good finishing from Victor Namu brought Kano Pillars into the game in the second minute.

Loti Phiri capitalized on a defensive blunder in the 39th minute and put the visiting team in front.

Kano Pillars lost several scoring chances in the first half which ended on a disappointing note for the Nigerian side.
But the hard fighting Kano Pillars players regrouped in the second half of the match playing to the delight to the fans.

In the fifty-fifth minute, Victor Namu equalized for Kano Pillars while substitute Bello Kofamata scored the winning goal in the 85th minute.

With this victory, Kano Pillars are now comfortably on top of Group A and face the prospect of meeting another Nigerian club Heartland of Owerri in the semi finals.

Pillars’ next group match will be against Al- merreikh of Sudan.
