Lawmakers have picked holes in the 2012 budget proposal faulting the budgetary allocations to security, agriculture and health.
This is coming as the senate debated the 2012 budget proposal presented by president Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday 13 December, 20111.
Opposition lawmaker Sen. Olubunmi Adetunmbi said the prioritization of government spending in the budget is not reflective of the realities in the economy.
He also said the budget was silent on the safety nets meant to cushion the effects of the federal government’s fiscal policy which was contained in the medium term fiscal frame work.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Whip Sen. Ganiyu Solomon said contrary to expectations, the 2012 budget cannot promote growth and employment with twenty eight percent capital expenditure compared to seventy two percent recurrent
