At the Funeral of the 44,people held up wreaths and photos of the victims as the ceremony carried on inside.

The coffins were draped in Syrian flags.

Aimed at two security buildings, the suicide bombs, were a sign of the increasingly violent insurgency against President Bashar al-Assad, who has used tanks and troops to try to crush nine months of street protests that started off as mainly peaceful rallies.

The funerals come as world powers argue over the details of a U.N. resolution on Syria.

European and U.S. officials want the Security Council to impose an arms embargo and other sanctions on Syria’s government because of its nine-month-old crackdown, which U.N. officials say has killed thousands.

Western powers say government security forces have been responsible for most of the violence. But Russia, an old ally of Damascus, wants any resolution to be even-handed.
