Protesters, mainly youths in ilorin the kwara state capital today vent their anger over the removal of fuel subsidy as they marched from emir’s road, the post office as well adangba areas of the Ilorin metropolis.

However, the protest turned violent at Post Office junction when the protesters were tear-gased by armed security agents, who shot several tear gas canisters to disperse the people. The action threw the area into pandemonium.

There were sporadic shootings by the law enforcement agents who came to the scene apparently to discourage the protesters from advancing towards Government House area.

In a statement, the Nigeria Labour Congress President, Mr. Abdulwaheed Omar, said they are holding President Jonathan’s administration liable for the murder of the protester.

Mr. Omar said the Union had cautioned the Jonathan administration agains the use of brute force and arms against unarmed Nigerians public.

The protest which lasted for about one hour on saw a stray bullets hitting one of the protesters on the chest as the wounded man was seen being carried by co-protesters.

Protesters were also seen throwing stones to retaliate the efforts of the security agents to disperse them, while many people at the scene were seen running helter-skelter at the post office junction.

Also, shops were hurriedly closed while vehicles turned back away from the trouble spot.

Most filling stations in the capital were closed to t customers but before then petrol was sold to customers at the rate of between N138 and N141
