The Captain of Spanish giants; Carles Puyol has passed Club mate and Argentine striker Lionel Messi as being the number one footballer in the world and will be for a very long time.

Messi the Argentine striker and Barcelona forward won the World Player of the Year award the third time in a row at a young age of 24.

With 47.88% of the general vote which was gotten from national team coaches,captains and media people Messi took home the award.

Receiving the trophy from former striker for Brazil; Ronaldo De Lima also a three-time winner of the same award.

Puyol spoke on behalf of the ever energetic coach of Barcelona Pep Guardiola about Messi saying “What he likes the most is playing football and he is proving that. He always wants to play against every rival, every game. I think that is very important and what makes him the best and he is going to be the best for a long time.”

Coach Pep Guardiola of Barcelona was also given the best manager of the year award.
