The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has raised an alarm over the exclusion of its governorship candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission from the list of candidates to contest the February 11 governorship election in the state.

INEC had on Thursday released a list of 35 qualified candidates and 36 political parties for the poll, but missing on the list of the candidates is that of the PDP. According to INEC, it took the decision because the subject of the PDP candidate for the governorship election is under litigation.

But speaking to journalists in Yenagoa, the state capital, chairman of the party in the state Mr. James Dugo, condemned the decision by the electoral body, adding that the state PDP has formally notified INEC of the party’s stand and is awaiting a response on the matter.

Incumbent governor, Timipre Sylva had gone to court seeking an injunction to stop the PDP from presenting Mr. Henry Dickson as the party’s governorship candidate, insisting he is the rightful candidate for the election having won the first primary organised by the party
