Nigerians Follow AFCON 2012 Despite Non-Qualification
Fans of some of African big names that couldnt secure a slot for the on-going African Cup Of Nations 2012 especially Nigeria are yet to get over their pain of the country’s lacklustre performance which led to the non-qualification of Nigeria.
But despite that,a lot of football loving fans still follow the AFCON which began last weekend without the likes of Nigeria,Algeria,Cameroon and Egypt.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to make it to the continent’s biggest football tournament for the first time since 1986.
They were also absent from the competition in 1998, after being banned from the finals for quitting the 1996 edition for political reasons.
Many fans say mismanagement of the country’s football affairs is to blame for the national team’s poor performance.
A federal court recently disbanded the country’s football federation after FIFA lifted a ban for what it’s said was government interference in management of the country’s football.
Nigeria used to be number five in the world,but in the last ten, fifteen years, everything took a downturn.
Nigeria has won the African Nations Cup twice in 1980 and 1994. More recently they took third place at the 2010 African Nations Cup.
