SACKED GOVERNORS: PDP expresses dismay Over Judgement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the judgment and says that it is dismayed and bewildered by the ruling of the Supreme Court in which five governors elected on the platform of the party were removed from office with one fell swoop.

In a press statement signed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali says that the judgment throws a major challenge to the PDP’s determination to deepen democracy in the country adding that the ruling party considers the judgment as a huge setback considering the time and resources spent in the last one year to ensure smooth transition in the affected states..

The PDP however says that while it awaits a clear position from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the status of elections in the five states, its members are to remain calm and rest assured that the PDP will continue to stand by them and do everything legally possible to maintain its dominant position in those states.

The Attorney General of the Federation had sequel to the ruling of the Supreme Court, directed Speakers of the five states of Kogi, Cross River, Adamawa, Bayelsa and Sokoto, which were affected by the ruling, to take over governance in the states in acting capacity in line with the constitution.
