18 Victims of Madalla Blast, Including Six Children Buried

Wearing a mournful look, over 2,000 mourners attended a funeral service held for 26 parishioners out of 42 people killed in the deadly Christmas day bomb attack at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger state on Wednesday.

The Archbishop of Abuja Archbishop John Onaiyekan asked government and security agencies to rise above the prevailing challenges and take the right steps to stop unnecessary killings and deaths in the country.

Eighteen victims were buried by the church including six children.

Over 25 people were reported dead as result of the bomb attack which ripped through the St.Theresa Catholic Church in Niger state during its Christmas mass.

The Abuja explosions wasn’t the only one to rock Nigeria’s troubled north on Christmas Day as yet another explosion was reported near another church in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The twin attacks which has residents fearing for their lives during the yuletide season is suspected to be the work of dreaded Islamic sect Boko Haram.

According to the associated press the terrorist sect have orchestrated several attacks that have claimed over 400 lives this year alone.

The AP reported he first explosion on Sunday struck St Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, a town in Niger state close to the capital, Abuja, authorities said.
