Anambara State Governor gives N1 million to wives of Boko Haram victims

Anambara State Governor Peter Obi on Sunday presented cheques for N1 million to 14 widows, who lost their husbands in ethnic-targeted attacks attributed to members of radical Boko Haram sect in Mubi, Adamawa state.

The women had been married to some of the Igbo tradesman killed earlier last month by gunmen suspected to members of the radical sect that has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the nation’s turbulent north.

At least 20 men were reportedly killed in the attack that was carried out when the tradesmen had convened for a townhall meeting.

Governor Obi, This Day reported, consoled the bereft widows, handing out the cheques following a mass at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Anambara state, and cautioned against acts of vengance, stating that vengeance comes from God.

He also stated that the Adamawa State government had promised to pay out some form of compensation to the widows as well.

Governor Obi further expressed hope that the current efforts being made to curb the activities of the sect would yeild results.

He called for an increased level of vigilance among all Nigerians, saying it was essential to save lives.
