The fierce battle for the Bayelsa governorship seat is finally over with PDP gubernatorial candidate Seriake Dickson emerging as the winner of the Bayelsa state governorship election in a landslide victory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission have collated the votes from the eight Local Government Councils in the oil-rich region, with the Peoples Democratic Party sweeping the polls and maintaining a distinct lead in every council.

The ruling party’s Bayelsa front man dominated the polls with 417,500 votes, while the Dr. Imoro Kubor of the Change for Advocacy Party, CAP, comes in a distant second place with 22,534 votes and the Action Congress of Nigeria, with candidate Barrister Kemela Okara, came in third place with 10,234 votes; the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, reportedly comes in at fourth place.

The breakdown of the results from the eight local government areas – Ogbia, Sagbama, Nembe, Kolokuma-Opokuma, Yenagoa, Ekeremor, Southern Ijaw and Brass – are as follows:

Of the 53,271 accredited votes cast in the Ogbia LGA, the PDP swept up a whopping 50,848 votes, while the CAP claimed 1,277, the ACN, 1,085.

In Sagbama council, where PDP governorship contender Seriake Dickson hails from, the INEC reported that 55,264 were accredited for the polls and the PDP polled 51,078, CAP scored 1,738, ACN 1,388 and CPC 414.

The ruling party also came out on top at the Kolokuma-Opokuma council where out of the 19,470 INEC accredited voters, the PDP scored 18,107, followed by CAP which polled 490 votes, ACN 326 votes, and CPC 94 votes.

In the Yenagoa local government council with the highest amount of accredited voters – 69,986 according to INEC – the PDP scored 61,820 votes, followed by CAP 2,101 votes, ACN 1,848 and the CPC 381 votes.

In Nembe council area, 63,523 were accredited for the election proper; the PDP dominated at the polls, sweeping up 57,589 votes, while the CAP came in at a distant second position with 2,000 votes, followed by ACN 1,076 and CPC 103 votes.

In Ekeremor council area with 60,546 valid votes, PDP came out on top garnering 55,044 votes, the CPC came in second place with 2,044 votes and the CAP with 1,867.

In Brass local government council, 43,391 valid votes were collated, with the PDP polling 36,353, CAP was second place with 5,089 and the ACN maintaining third with 1250.

Of the 97,735 valid votes counted in Southern Ijaw, the PDP dominated with 86,661 votes, while the CAP came in second at 7,972 and the ACN scored 1,679 votes.

Voting materials meant for Apoi in Southern Ijaw, for Ward 15, units 18 to 35 were lost when the boat transporting the materials capsized .

INEC reported that the boat which was travelling from Okunbiri was also carrying seven corps members, a Supervisory Polling Officer, three policemen, two soldiers.

One of the victims who said they narrowly escaped death adding that all their valuables including materials meant for the election were destroyed, according to media reports.
