Gunmen have attacked a Police station and a nearby bank in Bauchi state, northeast Nigeria.

The men who eyewitnesses said were many in number hurled explosives and fired sporadically in the area.

The attack which took place in Jama’are, a town in the north of the state, occurred late Monday night, 24 hours after a similar assault in another northern state, Adamawa, in which three policemen were killed.

According to an eyewitness, “the men arrived in cars and headed straight to the police station and a nearby bank, shooting and throwing explosives”. He added that “the residents quickly moved indoors on hearing the sound of the explosions and gunshots.”

Although no casualties have been reported and no group has claimed responsibility for this attack, members of boko haram are said to have taken to robbing banks to fund their violent activities.
