Worried by the increasing cases of wild polio virus in Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan has raised the fund for tackling the disease from $17 Million to $30 Million and pledged that he will eradicate  the disease before the end of the current administration by 2015

President Jonathan made this known on Thursday, while inaugurating the presidential task force for the eradication of polio in Nigeria at the state house in Abuja.

According to the President, “the increase in the cases of wild polio virus from 21 in 2010 to 51 cases in 2011 was unacceptable.”

The President further expressed his regret that Nigeria remains the only country where the wild virus in still ravaging the lives of people, despite all effort aimed at eradicating the disease in the country and globally.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) last weekend listed Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan as the remaining countries where the crippling disease is endemic in the world while removing India from the list.
