Riots broke out today in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, when some police officers allegedly shot and killed a secondary school student.

Reports stated the student, a pupil at Government Day Secondary School, had been found with illegal drugs in his possession and had been handed over to police attached to Damare police station by the school’s principal.

It was the last time the young student was seen alive.

Police forces later deposited his corpse at his family compound and quickly drove away. Youths in the area, outraged at the murder of the student, took to the street in angry protests.

Carting the deceased student in a casket, the youths marched to the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa to make their grievances heard.

The rioting youths had reportedly attacked police stations. Adamawa police officials are yet to confirm or deny the reports.
