Al Wasl Coach, Maradona

Controversial Argentina legend, Diego Maradona, has claimed that his dream is to leave a legacy in the United Arab Emirates akin to the one created by the Gunners boss in north London.

He debunked claims that he joined the oil-rich Al Wasl for financial reasons and claimed that he wants to leave behind a lasting legacy in the country and looks forward to becoming the Arsene Wenger of the oil-rich football club.

“I would love to fulfil and go on to renew [my contract]; to become a sort of Arsene Wenger at Al Wasl,” Maradona told DPA.

“I want to fulfil a long-term contract, more than anything because of the youngsters aged 14, 16, 18 and 20, to show them that money is important for everyone, but that glory cannot be bought.”

Maradona also said it hurts him to watch Argentina in action and at such longer watches his country play but keeps a close tab on Boca Juniors and could return to the club in the future.

“I love Boca. If they call me out of desperation then I would walk there. The thing is I know Boca aren’t desperate, and they have a great coach [Julio Cesar Falcioni].”

Maradona enjoyed two separate stints at Boca during his long and illustrious playing career.
