Nigeria’s slide on FIFA’s world rankings continued today as the Super Eagles further slipped a place to the 57th spot in the world and 9th in Africa for the ranking in March.
The ranking is coming after the goalless draw the Eagles played against the Wasps of Rwanda in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Eagles were ranked 56th in February.
The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finalists Cote d’Ivoire held on to top spot in Africa, followed by Ghana.
Algeria was ranked third while the newly crowned African champions, Zambia made the fourth position on the continent and ranked 41 in the world.
Mali is in the fifth position, while the remainder of the top 10 is filled by Gabon, Libya, Tunisia and South Africa.
World champions Spain, which recorded a 5-0 victory against Venezuela in last week’s friendly, maintained the top position in the global in the ranking.
Netherlands moved into second spot following their 3-2 win over England, swapping places with Germany, who lost 2-1 at home to France.
The Three Lions of England slipped one place to sixth following their defeat, falling behind Uruguay and 4-time world champions Brazil on the list.
While Portugal, 2-time world champions Argentina, Italy and Croatia make up the top 10 best football playing countries.
