The world’s ugliest dog, Yoda, died in her sleep on Saturday, reports said. Yoda, whose spectacularly ugly face, short unruly tufts of hair, protruding tongue, hideous snout and oddly hairless legs, won her the 2011 World’s Ugliest Dog award at the Sonoma Marin Fair died at the age of 15.

The Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix weighed 0.8 kg had lived a hard life before Terry Schumacher found her abandoned behind an apartment building.

Schumacher, who had initially mistake Yoda for a rat, eventually took her in and Yoda went on to win $1,000 and a trophy last June.

The ugly dog and her compassionate benefactor went on to attain nationwide fame, appearing on national television.

Schumacher, who lives in California, told the press that she will miss Yoda and “her funny little ways”.

She added that she was “comforted knowing she will be joining my Mom and Dad, who loved her so much. Her memories will live on forever.”

Contest producer Vicki DeArmon says Yoda will retain her title as the World’s Ugliest Dog until another ugly pup is crowned come June.
