Talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s  Network (OWN) has laid off over 30 employees, the network announced on Monday.

In a statement Oprah said “The decision to let off one-fifth of their staff which includes two high level executives was a ‘tough one’ but economics of a start-up cable network didn’t fit with the company’s cost structure”

she also added “As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network. To wholly achieve that long-term success, this was a necessary next step”

Oprah started her talk show in 1986 which ran for 25 seasons and concluded it in 2011, before venturing into television network in 2012.

The Network was launched in January 2012.
