The number of the nation’s political parties continues to grow with the unveiling of the United People’s Grand Alliance (UPGA) by the founding national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie.

This is coming just after Chief Okorie returned the original registration certificate of APGA to the party leaders over the weekend, drawing to a close a legal battle that has drawn out for almost a decade.

At a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Chief Okorie, who has been locked in a legal tussle with the national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh for about eight years over the leadership of the party, said the decision to halt all twenty-three suits pending in court was owing to “popular demand by the people to re-establish on a balanced and unbiased platform.”

He insisted that the new party UPGA will “not be hijacked.”
