Four Boko Haram members have been shot dead in a gun battle with the police force in Maiduguri.

The clash occurred while the police carried out a search action in all houses in the area to hunt down suspected boko haram members.
The search exercise began today with several military patrols stopping in Maiduguri neighbourhoods to carry out house to house searches.

The search follows the spate of attacks by the Islamic sect members in the past few days, including the killing of a prison official and a retired police inspector.

Speaking on the Saturday attack that involved two police stations in Maiduguri, the spokesman for the Joint Task Force Sagir Musa said, the militants have been repelled and three killed.

Musa also disclosed that two militants, including a commander, were killed during an attempt to arrest them the day before as part of the crackdown.
