Nigeria’s Under20 women team, the Falconets battled hard to put three goals behind their Zimbabwean opposition, the Young Mighty Warriors.

The 2012 Fifa Under20 Women’s World Cup qualifier in Japan at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on Saturday saw the Nigerians head forward through striker, Francisca Ordega in the 28th minute.

Despite a forceful start of the match by the coach Edwin Okon tutored side, unpardonable misses upfront robbed the nation’s campaigners a desired increase in goal tally.

First term ended 1-0 in Nigeria’s favour but at the resumption of play after a tough talk from the coaching crew saw the players showing more hunger for goals.

Their efforts paid off in the 46th minute when workaholic Ordega provided the assist that was latched on by attacker, Esther Sunday for goal number two.

Ordega was later to grab a brace in the 80th minute for Falconets’ third goal.

Falconets are expected to take their three-nil advantage to Harare, Zimbabwe in fortnight for the second leg.

Falconets’ coach, Okon admitted some lapses but was excited that they have three goals to fall back to in Harare.

“Every game has its own lessons; we’ve taken some lessons from today’s game. We missed lots of begging chances; I will work on it before the return leg in Harare.

“I think the race for Japan is over for the Zimbabweans, they can’t turn the table against us at their ground,” he said.

His opposite, Coach Langton Giwa assured they will turn the table in the reverse fixture.

“At our ground during the reverse fixture we’ll change the result, it’s not yet over for us, I can assure you,” he said.

The winner of the two-legged fixture will face the winner of the encounter between Congo and Mali
