Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has offered to teach some courses in the post-graduate school at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

Fayemi said this on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti at the 17th convocation lecture of the institution.

The governor said he had started discussing with the vice chancellor of the university and the Department of Political Science on his readiness to impart knowledge to the students.

He said, “Apart from occupying the position of the Visitor of this University, I also want to play a more active role. Many will recall my campaign promise to teach in the university.

“I have been in discussion with the school on plans to start a graduate course in my field of Peace and Conflict Studies. So very soon, don’t be surprised if you see me in your class.”

Fayemi, who holds doctorate degree in War Studies from the King’s College, University of London had earlier lectured at the Police Training College.

“I am not unaware that the major complaints of public institutions centre on inadequate funding. While this is true, it would however be unacceptable to this government should the Ekiti State University be attracted to the temptation of using this as an excuse for failure to meet its obligations as required,” he added.

Also at the event, the Vice-President of Ghana, Dr. John Mahama, challenged Nigeria to use its abundant human and natural resources to lead other African countries to economic prosperity.

The Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella; and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Tekena Tamuno, were also conferred with honorary doctorate degrees of the university.
