The State Security Service in Gombe on Thursday paraded four suspects arrested in connection to a cache of explosives discovered by SSS operatives.

Bitrus Asha, director of the SSS in Gombe state said the suspects had been caught with 60 improvised explosive devices in a house located at the British Cotton Ginnery Area in the city.

“As you can see, there are a lot of explosives, numbering about 60 prepared in tins, ready for detonation.

“So we are lucky that the tins were recovered and you are even advised not to go near the items with your handsets.Very soon, the items will be detonated, we are lucky that we have made the recovery.”

It is unclear where the alleged suspects had intended to detonate the devices, but Asha said, going by his experience, “they were meant to be detonated definitely and we have information on that plan”.

The SSS has not clearly stated if the foursome are members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, but are convinced of their criminal intent.

Security has been tightened in the area to avoid and forestall possible attacks, the SSS assured.
