After 7 years of unwedded bliss and 6 children, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally decided to walk down the aisle.

The two hollywood’s most recognisable celebrities, who incredibly fell in love after featuring in the movie ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ back in 2005, officially announced their engagement on the 14th of April, 2012.

“Yes, it’s confirmed” Brad Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, disclosed in a statement. “It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”

A Beverly Hills jeweler, Robert Procop also confirmed the engagement, stating that  he helped Pitt, 48, design a custom diamond engagement ring for Jolie, 36.  According to him, ““Brad had a specific vision for this ring…he wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand”.

With the engagement, Jolie-Pitt’s three biological children (the twins Vivienne and Knox, and daughter Shiloh) and three adopted children (Maddox, Pax, and Zahara) are finally getting their happily-ever-after wish, that is, Mom and Dad, making their union legal, just like Shrek and Fiona in the movie ‘Shrek’.

In December, 2011, Jolie stated that the kids had been asking why she and their dad weren’t officially married because, after all, “people get married in the movies.” but her rationale for their relationship then was “You don’t have to be married to be committed to a partner or your family. We’ve explained to them that our commitment, when we decided to start a family, was the greatest commitment you could possibly have,” she said.

Also, Brad pitt who admitted that the reason for the engagement was due to the pressure from the kids,  stated he heeded to their pleas by getting their mother a ring, and he wasn’t surprised when Angelina Jolie said yes to him.

Meanwhile,  the couple, whose ‘relationship’ have so far being described as one of Hollywood’s longests ‘unions’ and notable for fervent media attention,  have championed humanitarian causes together, setting up the Jolie-Pitt Foundation as well as supporting a host of UN related causes across the globe.
