The Nigeria military is cranking up the heat on crime and terrorism in Borno State. The Joint Task Force confirmed on Tuesday that four persons, including three robbers and one suspected member of the radical Boko Haram sect, were killed in the state capital of Maiduguri.

Speaking to the press in a phone interview, spokesman for the military, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, confirmed the killing, adding that JTF operatives had been following up on a tip when they raided a Boko Haram hideout in the early hours of Tuesday in the Pompomari ward of the metropolis.

He said the raid resulted in the killing of the suspected sect member, adding that weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered following the bust.

During a similar operation conducted in Wulari metropolis, the JTF arrested some 13 persons said to be members of the Boko Haram sect. The individuals are now in custody and are part of an investigation.

Musa added that in other development, the JTF, responding to a distress call in Gomari ward, had engaged the some armed robbers in a shoot out, killing three of the suspected robbers in the process.

The JTF spokesman called on the general public to remain alert and assist security agencies in tackling crime and terrorism in Nigeria’s troubled north.
