The Oyo state government has warned of imminent flood in some parts of the state around the 20th of April.

Some of the towns that are forecasted to be affected include, Ibadan-the state capital, Oyo, Iseyin and Ogbomosho town.

The warning was issued by the Commissioner for Information, Bosun Oladele, who said the warning came from the National Meteorological Centre.

He urged the citizens to take the warning seriously and called for immediate evacuation in flood prone areas.

The state witnessed massive flood in 2011 that claimed hundreds of lives.

The commissioner noted that the government has approved more equipment for the on-going demolition of illegal structures on water ways.

Oladele said people must evacuate houses marked for demolition immediately as government has started demolishing.

He said the urgent demolition has become necessary in the face of the forecast that there will be another flood in the state.

The government also pleaded with people living in other flood prone areas to relocate urgently to avoid further loss of lives and property.

Garage for sanity

Meanwhile the state governor AbiolaAjimobi has also warned contractors handling different constructions of the state’s infrastructure to deliver good jobs on agreed time else they will have the contracts revoked.

While inspecting new motor parks at Temidire and New garage areas of Ibadan, Ajimobi said when completed the new parks will create employment, orderliness and eradicate hooliganism at the parks.

The state governor, accompanied by the Commissioner for Works and transport Mr. Yinus Akintunde and other members of his cabinet went round to assess the level of work done on the new motor parks at Temidire Iwo road and New garage parks.

Governor Ajimobi said his government embarked on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of garages to ensure that sanity returns to transportation in the state.

He however expressed some displeasure with the contractor handling the Automated Temidire Park, giving till the end of this month to deliver or be sacked.
