The Niger state government has disbursed the sum of N36 million to the victims of last year’s Christmas day bomb blast at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla.
The chairman of the relief committee set up by the state government, Alhaji Yussuf Tagwai explained that the relatives of the dead victims will receive N1 million each while the injured victims,will receive N250,000 just as the state government will be paying their medical bills.
Giving a break-down of the compensation Alhaji  Tagwai stated that families of the 10 deceased,  will get N1 million each  while 117 injuried victims will get N250,000 and the three people that got their cars burnt on that day will get N500,000 each.”
The victims converged on the palace the traditional ruler of Madalla to receive monetary compensation from the state government.One of the victims, Mrs Chioma Dike who lost her entire family of husband and three children told Channels television that the bomb blast has really touched her life.”My husband that does everything for me, I cant see him again and my three children all dead” she said with teary eyes.

Another victim, Mr Vitalis Ugokwe, who still bears the scars of the blast narrated his ordeal to date.

“As the thing happen that day, I was standing and it affected me and my junior son, Pascal” he said.
“A 3cm iron was lodged into my shoulder through my vein, coming into my chest” he further explained, adding that “so they later removed it from my neck after one month and this has affected my veins and my hands which arent working yet.” “Before I stand up, my wife has to help me” he said.
Alhaji Tagwai noted that the payment of the compensation is in fulfilment of the promise by the state governor, Babangida Aliyu when he visited the victims after the bomb blast.
According to the parish priest of Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Madalla, Reverend Father Isaac Achi things have not remained the same since the bomb attack of December 25th last year during the Christmas mass.
“Naturally after every ugly incident, ther must be a need for people to rebuild themselves. We can say God is really doing is best as far the church and the Madalla community are facing” he stated.
Thirty people lost their lives in the Christmas bay bomb blast while many were injured while some of those injured are still receiving medical treatments.
Alhaji Tagwai appealed to residents of the community to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement or gathering to the security agents.
