The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has voided the recently conducted congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In his ruling, presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang held that the congress was conducted in violation of a court order directing the parties to maintain status quo pending the determination of a suit filed by one faction of the party

The Dayo Soremi faction of the party had instituted the suit against the party’s former national vice chairman, southwest, Tajudeen Oladipo.

Justice Abang condemned the action of the former vice chairman and other leaders of the party in the region which showed disdain for the rule of law and went ahead to conduct the congress in violation of his order.

The court described their actions as mischievous, reckless, disgraceful and high handed as it was meant to foist on the court a state of helplessness by taking a shortcut which now amounts to a nullity.

Justice Abang also condemned disobedience to court orders which he says has become an endemic disease that has eaten deep into the fabric of the country.
