Following incessant clashes between cattle rearers and farmers in the country, the Senate has asked its committee on Agriculture to address the problem of the incessant clashes between nomads-cattle rarers and farmers in the country.

The Senate leader, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba made the call at a public hearing on the control of national grazing reserves and stock routes in Nigeria.

The public hearing is aimed at looking at ways of regulating the practice of cattle grazing in Nigeria.

Senator Ndoma-egba said tensions between cattle rarer and farmers have worsened security in the country. Almost a hundred lives were lost last Thursday in Potiskum, Yobe state when a fight broke out in the Potiskum cattle market.

A similar clash broke out earlier in the year in Taraba state, where over 3,000 nomads were displaced and had to settle in Cross-river.

Chairman of the Senate committee on Agriculture, Senator Emmanuel Buacha noted that the nation’s grazing reserve laws lacks a definite legislative framework, despite their existence over a long time.
