Senate President, David Mark has advocated for a dialogue between government and extremist groups in the country.

Mr Mark made this known at the resumption of the Senate plenary session, where he stated that the terrorists have clearly declared war on Nigeria and Nigerians thereby escalating acts of terror that threaten the country’s unity.

“The current level of insecurity in the country is unacceptable and something must be done to improve it and very quickly too,” the Senate president stated, adding that “clearly, the terrorists have declared war on Nigeria and Nigerians”.

Referring to the discouraging response of the federal government in tackling the menace, Mr Mark stated that “the primary responsibility of tackling this challenge lies with the government but that notwithstanding, we all have roles to play.”

“This is the time for concerted action by all Nigerians,” Mr. Mark said.

He was also full of words for the nation’s security operatives, saying, “let me also say without mincing words that the security agencies must intensify their pre-operational responsibilities, roles and actions and improve their operational capabilities” he said.

“Their major task must be to thwart and prevent these bombings.”

Senator Mark said this is the time for action by all Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity, political affiliation and religion to address the crises of terrorism in the country.
