Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye charges Jonathan to implement the FOI bill

While commending President Goodluck Jonathan for signing the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill into law, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye charged him to make his action speak louder than his voice. He also called on aides of the president to imbibe the same spirit as the president.

He lamented the inability of previous governments to pass the bill despite journalism being the oldest “arm” of government in the country. He went down memory lane to remind Nigerians of when journalism began in the country and called on President Jonathan to begin his transformation agenda in the media circles.

Prof. Akinfeleye also claimed that journalism is the fulcrum on which every democracy stands. He said “we are the fourth estate of the realm and will never be fourth estate of the wreck”.

He challenged the government to provide security and a conducive working environment for journalists. He also berated the attack on media establishments as well as journalists.
