The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano state has been reacting to the murder of a German national Mr Edgar Fritz Raupach who had been held hostage in Kano state, north western Nigeria since January.

The JTF in a statement disclosed that Raupach was killed during a raid by security forces on an enclave near Bayero University Kano, where some terrorist commanders were said to be meeting.

On sighting the security forces, the terrorists opened fire and threw improvised explosive devises on the security forces resulting in an exchange of fire for about thirty minutes, five members of the terrorist group dead.

The JTF added that while conducting a search of the hideout, they found the handcuffed corpse of an expatriate, later identified as the German national who was   kidnapped in Kano in January this year, along Zaria bye pass while working for Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company. He was allegedly killed by the terrorists on noticing the security forces.

Among the items recovered at the scene were 2 AKk 47 rifles, huge quantity of ammunition, 36 hand grenades and improvised explosive devices.

A group claiming to be Al-Qaeda’s North African wing said in March that it was holding Mr Raupach and demanded the release of a Muslim woman, Filiz Gelowicz imprisoned in Germany in exchange for his freedom.
