The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has referred the contempt proceedings filed against the Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr George Uriesi, by an aviation service provider, Maevis Limited, to the Chief Judge of the court for re-assignment to another judge.

Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako took the decision while delivering a ruling on the contempt proceedings.

The court held that the contempt proceedings remain and subsequently referred it to the Chief Judge of the court to assign same to another judge for hearing so that all parties can be given fair hearing”.

It will be recalled that Maevis had filed the contempt charge over an allegation that FAAN disregarded an order of the court made on the 24th of September 2010, for the maintenance of “res” on the airports concession contract between it and FAAN.

The judge also overruled the objection of Maevis with regard to an appeal lodged by FAAN to challenge the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit saying the authority is free to pursue the appeal.

She consequently adjourned the hearing of the substantive matter till the 5th of July.
