Authorities of the University of Ibadan (UI) held the first edition of a town hall meeting with students to exchange ideas and enhance trust between the students and authority, in a bid to promote academic excellence, peace and trust.

The interactive forum which lasted for about 5 hours was attended by students’ representatives and the management of the institution, addressed several issues affecting students welfare on campus.

The Vice-chancellor, Professor Folorunsho Adewole who attended to questions from students in a no holds barred manner described the town hall meeting as a huge success.

Issues on power generation, hostel accommodation and the state of lecture theatres were discussed extensively.

The students led by the Student Union President, Edosa Raymond asked several questions bothering on power and water supply, overcrowding at halls of residence and the rationale behind the recent closure of the school for more than two weeks.

Authorities of the nation’s premier university, shut down the institution for two weeks following a widespread protest by the students over irregular power supply.

Led by the Vice-chancellor, all the questions were answered by various heads of department.

Prof. Adewole assured the students of significant improvement in power and water supply with a promise to provide at least 150 public toilets by next session.

He expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the meeting.

A cross section of the students who spoke to Channels TV said the interactive session has built confidence, interaction and trust.

Prof. Adewole also promised to make the town hall meeting a regular feature of his administration to bridge the information gap that had existed for too long.
