The Osun state government has distributed over 100 computer Tablets of Knowledge (Opon Imo), an initiative of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration, to students for test-running, with a view to making adjustments where necessary.

The team of experts handling the project disclosed this at Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo last Friday during a sensitisation programme for the Senior Secondary School (SSS2) students of the school, who have been selected for the test-running of the computer tablets.

The computer tablets, which was designed to improve the learning among secondary school students and prepare them for external and internal examinations, was designed in the form of iPad and would be given to the students free-of-charge.

A member of the team, Oyintiloye Olatunbosun, the Assistant Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, (Community Forum) in the Office of the Governor, who addressed the students, said that even though all students in SS1, SS2, and SS3 across the state would be given the tablets, the students of Ataoja School of Science have been selected for the test-running, assuring the parents and students of other schools not to entertain any fear.

He said that after distributing the tablets to the students for test-running, they would be retrieved in the next two weeks, during which the students are expected to have used it both in school and at home and give feedback, including suggestion for improvement, where necessary.

According to him, since such project has never been embarked upon by any government, there are bound to be shortcomings and after suggestion might have been taken from the students and teachers who have used the tablets for test-running and all necessary adjustment are made, the project would then be launched and distributed to all students in the state.

He called on students to handle the computer tablets with care, both at home and in school, with a view to ensuring that the purposes of the project are not defeated.

Installed in each of the computer tablets are the soft copies of all the subjects being offered in secondary schools with different text books and lesson notes, as well as past questions of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examination Council Examination (NECO), as well as Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Principal of the School, AjidahunAdedayo, praised Governor Aregbesola’s determination to ensure that students of the State of Osun are able to meet up with any students in the world, stressing that the Opon Imo initiative was a milestone that has never been achieved by any government.

He also appreciated the government for choosing his school as a pilot for the project, promising that everything would be done to ensure that the computer tablets are handled with care by the students, with a view to serving the purpose it is meant for.
