The Senate has recommended the immediate arrest and prosecution of the chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina for fraud and outright stealing of pension funds.

The upper legislative chamber also recommended that the Pension Reform Task Team be immediately disbanded after describing it as being illegal.

The Senate also recommended that the Pension Reform Task Team should refund the sum of N15 billion to the federal government, being surplus of the pension funds not paid to pensioners.

The decisions were agreed on after the Senate considered the 108 page report for five hours by its ad hoc committee investigating pension administration in the country.

Senate President, David Mark ordered that Maina be made to appear before the senate on July 3rd to answer questions on the Customs, Immigration and Prisons pension office.

The Senate president threatened to issue a warrant of arrest if Maina and his officials fail to appear before the senate.

Presenting the final report on the investigation of pension funds management, the chairman, Senate Joint Committees On Establishment And Public Service, Senator Aloysius Etuk for over an hour detailed how the chairman of the Pension Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina engaged in illegal contract splitting and award of contract to the tune of N1.8 billion and approved the spending of N17 billion on biometric verification for less than 30 pensioners in the diaspora.

Describing the pension fraud as a monumental fraud and a national disgrace, Senator Mark said the Senate would insist that its recommendations are implemented by the executive.
