A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has faulted the result declared by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) in which the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) won 19 out of the 20 council areas in the state.

In a statement issued by Kashamu, he said the PDP will challenge the result announced by OGSIEC at the appropriate quarters.

He said the party was not surprised at the outcome of the election because OGSIEC’s activities had all along been strewn in illegalities, culminating in its jettisoning the candidates list submitted by the mainstream PDP for “an unpopular and pliable group which sold the PDP out because of their personal relationship”.

Kashamu said beyond the orchestrated video clips being shown on select television stations, OGSIEC should show to the whole world video clips of where votes were collated and results announced at the local government headquarters in the presence of party agents, the Police, State Security Service (SSS), Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and other relevant agencies, as stipulated by the election guidelines.

He said in spite of the machinations of the electoral body, the electorate still voted massively for PDP,” hence the panicky measure to move all the election results to Abeokuta to announce”.

He noted that contrary to the results declared by OGSIEC, the report from the party’s field officers indicated that PDP won the election in at least 11 local governments, namely Ipokia, Imeko Afon, Ikenne, Sagamu, Remo North, Ijebu North East, Ijebu North, Ijebu East, Odogbolu, Ijebu Ode and Ogun Waterside.

“There are result sheets and other documents to back our claim,” Kashamu added.

He expressed his gratitude to the people for voting PDP and urged the party’s supporters to remain calm and focused.

The party chieftain pleaded with the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, his team, as well as President Goodluck Jonathan, to support the party in the fight to redress what he described as day-light robbery.

He urged the President to take interest in the affairs of the party in the states, adding that it is the state chapters that make up the PDP which he heads as the national leader.

Kashamu said what happened during the local government election was an eye-opener that “with better organisation and cohesion, the PDP is the party to beat in Ogun State in 2015”.
