Members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Delta state chapter embarked on a peaceful protest to the state House of Assembly and the state Police Command Headquarters in Asaba over the recent kidnap of two of their members today.

The doctors who marched along Okpanam road to the House of Assembly premises trooped out in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards with different inscriptions said they have commenced strike action in solidarity with their kidnapped colleagues.

Chairman of the Association, Dr. Ossai Abanuwa complained about the high rate of insecurity in the state and the subsequent kidnapping of two of their members and demand for N5 million ransom each.

He said they have come to the state legislature to lay their complaints, adding that the lawmakers should look into their plight.

The present insecurity situation and level of kidnapping in the state has become so alarming that the NMA had to stage a peaceful protest, calling for the immediate release of their members who are still being held by kidnappers.

Clerk of the Delta state House of Assembly, Mrs. Lyna Ochulor, who received them, assured them that their grievances would be channeled to the Speaker when the House resumes from recess.

In the same vein, the doctors marched to the state Police Headquarters where a representative of the Commissioner of police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu assured that the police have geared up efforts to track the kidnappers.
