Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko today formally declared his intention to run for another term come the October 20th governorship election in the state.

Governor Mimiko re assured his commitment to bring development to people of the state if voted as Governor.

Mimiko said,” As we promised in 2009, we have not shied away from what we consider the obligation of government in a society like ours. We thus have delivered programmes directed, as we promised, at ensuing that ‘the weak in the society are given opportunities to develop and actualize their potentials’.

“My good people of Ondo State, it is in the conviction that within the limits of our God-given resources and ability, we have kept faith with the electorate, that I solemnly seek your mandate for a second term in office as Governor. We require this for five major reasons which, with your permission, I hasten to enunciate.

“During these three and half years, we made the people of Ondo State the central focus of governance. We emplaced a string of people-oriented projects. We, by the sheer magnitude and quality of our projects, benchmarked Ondo State for Nigeria, and indeed, in many respects, for Africa. By so doing, we have succeeded in overcoming the mutual distrust and suspicion that characterized the relationship between government and the people. We have raised the profile of governance and set a standard beyond which no government can afford to fall in our dear State”.

The governor also recalled the circumstances that led to his emergence as governor of the state in 2009, stressing that it was this he rest upon to continue to work for people of the state.

Present at the declaration were the former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, PA Reuben Fasoranti, Comrade Umar Abdulwaheed, president Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Peter Esele, president of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Dr. Fredrick Faseun, Chief Ayo Adebanjo among others.

In his goodwill message, Chief Falae described Mimiko as a progressive man, who followed the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

According to him,” Mimiko is the only progressive man that has not allowed the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to be destroyed by so- called progressives.

“Less than one year in office, Mimiko has executed several of developmental projects in the state”.

Also, the NLC president, Mr. Abdulwaheed said the union would always support good governance in the country.

He described Mimiko as God given person for people of Ondo State, saying” Mimiko is God given person, and Ondo State must not lose such person, who has transformed the state better than he met it”.

He charged people of the state to go out en masse to cast their votes for the Labour Party (LP) when the election comes.
