The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has identified lack of discipline and mismanagement as one of the major factors responsible for the inaccessibility of funds by tertiary institutions across the country.
Professor Yakubu was speaking during an inspection of TETFUND 2009-2012 intervention projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna north west Nigeria.
He challenged universities on the need to address issues of transparency, especially in the utilization of available resources, noting with satisfaction the level of fiscal discipline at the Nigerian Defence Academy in the prompt delivery of the qualitative high impact intervention fund within a short period.
Among the areas intervened by TETFUND include the integrated engineering laboratory equipped with sophisticated machines, donation of books to the library as well as provision of internet services.
The TETFUND boss therefore urged tertiary institutions across the country to borrow a leaf to guarantee easy access of funds by the federal government.
