An Economist, Professor Akintan Bello has called for a monthly report on how the budget is implemented to address the ongoing controversy of the budget implementation.
This he claims will enhance budget transparency as it will regularly get the National Assembly informed about any shortfall in the revenues that are available to the government. The Minister of Finance Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has denied poor implementation of the 2012 budget, revealing that 56 per cent of the budget has being implemented while the members of the House of Representatives claim only 34 per cent has being implemented.
The House of Representatives recently threatened to commence impeachment proceedings on President Goodluck Jonathan, if the 2012 budget is not implemented at 100 per cent by September.
