Ahead of the October 2012 governorship election in Ondo state, the national executive committee of Labour Party has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the conduct of a free, fair, credible and transparent election reminiscent of the one it conducted in Edo state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the end of the 14th national executive committee meeting of the party, the national vice president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu said an improvement on the Edo election will further deepen the nation’s democracy.

He further adds that it will also boost the confidence of the electorate in the system.

Also speaking at the occasion, the governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko whose candidature for the October election was ratified by the party decried the increasing spate of insecurity in the country, stating that only good governance can address the challenges of security and poverty.
