Several days after the flag-off of the sale of buffer stock grains by the FCT Administration (FCTA), to reduce the high cost of staple food in the nation’s capital, the area councils are yet to commence actual distribution.

The FCTA, last week ordered the release and sale of buffer stock grains from its strategic food reserve. The grains are to be sold at 50 per cent subsidized price as part of measures to reduce high costs of staple food items in the territory.

The Supervisory Councillor for education and social development in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Honourable Ja’afaru Gwagwa who spoke to Channels Television, confirmed that all the six area councils in the FCT have received their allocations but are yet to pay for them.

The AMAC councillor observed that a date for the distribution will be made public as soon as the council makes the necessary payment to the FCT Administration.

According to him, the subsidized grains though not adequate, would serve to stabilize the prices of food in the market.

He revealed that the council received 800 bags of grains for distribution.
