The Lagos State government has cautioned officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) against engaging themselves in acts of bribery and corruption, saying any officer found guilty will be sacked.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Babatunde Edu gave this warning during an interactive  session with the LASTMA officials in Ilupeju. He said anyone found guilty “will be shown the way out and face possible prosecution for such unlawful act.”

He implored everyone to abide by the new traffic rules and reiterated the government’s position on punishing traffic offenders.

He said the state government will bring “to book any of the personnel found to have engaged in act of illegalities that could tarnish its image, adding that the state government would not relent in its efforts in recognizing and rewarding any official found to be outstanding in his or her performance”.

He advised the officials to be up and doing in their responsibilities, “To rise up to the challenges involved in traffic control and management, and to reposition LASTMA as the new face of excellence in Lagos State”.

“This are the leverage that will ensures that the Authority meets up with International Standards as it is being done in other mega cities of the World. This can be replicated here without infringing on the rights of citizenry.”

Mr. Edu also urged all motorists to corporate with LASTMA and see them as officers who are committed to serving their fatherland.

“To at all times obey traffic rules and regulations and should not hesitate to inform the government of any traffic officer, found to be corrupt or overzealous in the course of performing his or her duties.”

He also said any officer that misbehaves should be reported to the LASTMA Command Centre or the help line on 08023386921 should be called or better still one can mail the agency at [email protected].
