The government of Bayelsa state in the Niger Delta has defended its decision to launch its own flag, coat of arms and anthem.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Culture Felix Tuodolor who spoke on our weekend breakfast show Sunrise, the initiative is part of a re-branding process aimed at unifying the people of Bayelsa above and beyond political differences.

Backing up that argument, a legal practitioner Mr Ikechukwu Ikeji explained that the Bayelsa state government’s move was in line with the principle of a federation which allows each constituent state the right to a unique identity.
