The Joint Task Force on Wednesday ask resident of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to disregard a publication purportedly circulated by members of the dread sect, Boko Haram

The said publication was distributed to warn residents not to give useful information to security forces on their hideout, modus operandi and any other information on the activities of the sect members.

The publication reads in part “the sect warned the public not to divulge any information to Security agents or criticize their dastardly activities as doing so will attract maximum punishment from them.”

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the JTF Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa and made available to Channels Television in Maiduguri, the JTF call on the inhabitants to disregard such threats.

“The task force wishes to inform law abiding members of the public to totally disregard such publication and consider it as part of the terrorists’ propaganda strategy to keep the civil populace in captive and perpetual fear with the view to unleashing more terror on innocent citizens”

“The JTF reiterates its determination to ensure the maintenance of law, order and safety of lives/property of all law abiding citizen in Borno state. The task force also uses this opportunity to remind the public that security is a collective responsibility rooted in information sharing and collaboration. The task force advises members of the public in possession of such terrorist publication to disregard or destroy it.”

The statement reminds the public that JTF can be reached through the following hot lines for prompt action.

They gave the numbers as; 080-64174066, 080-85464012 and 080-54429346.

The statement also called on the cooperation of the citizenry in efforts to end the insurgency.
