The Chairman of the Human Right Commission, Chidi Odinkalu on Wednesday said that the major issue that Nigerians should be bothered about should not be who owns the police – Federal or State government – but the structure of the institution.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Odinkalu said “the case for state police are yet to be made out. The issue in my view is should not be who owns the police, the question should be does the police work for the people?”

Mr Odinkalu said the debate for state police is a wrong argument that took its root from Nigerians’ fixation on ownership and control rather than service delivery.
