The bill for an act to repeal the Immigration Act of 1963 and enact a new act has passed through second reading in the House of Representatives.
Leading the debate on the bill, the majority leader of the house, Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola, said the bill will grant autonomy to the Nigerian Immigration Service and empower it to meet current challenges.
The new bill is also expected to make provision for officers of the immigration service to carry arms.
